Glossary Title

These are simple electrodermal definitions which should not to be taken as absolute. Any specific questions as to definition, interpretation and/or explanation must be qualified by an appropriate authority.

Electrodermal Terms

Definitions

Acquisition Software - Data

Software used to collect the information/data produced by the measurement device.

Acupuncture 

A Traditional Chinese therapeutic technique using needles.

Acupuncture Meridian

An energetic pathway in the body.

Acupuncture Point

A specific spot on a meridian as defined by Chinese medicine.

Amperage

The quantity of stored power.

Analog 

Information that is presented in waveform, as our voices, or magnetic recording.

Analysis - Gastrointestinal (Chinese)

This instrument, developed in China, measures electrical activity of various areas of the gastrointestinal tract in a way similar to electrocardiography.  Various patterns of activity have been correlated with various disease states.  Developers believe that this is a very safe, non-invasive, accurate alternative to traditional western medical examinations such as endoscopies and barium contrast study X-rays to identify such conditions as peptic ulcers, stomach cancers, achlorhydria, spastic colon, pancreatitis, etc.

Analysis - Quadrant 

A process of qualifying energy values within specific regions.  This process helps isolate foci.

Assessment Device 

A device that presents information from a process.

Banana Jack 

Single pin about 1/8” in diameter.  Used predominately with electrodes.

Baseline 

The initial measurement taken at an electro-acupuncture point for a reference.

Bio-field 

Any energy field emitted by the body, may be electro-magnetic or other.

Bioresonance

A technology capable of manipulating the energy patterns received through the input.  Potential manipulations of signature are amplification, inversion, separation, and/or frequency range isolation. 

BNC Jack

A locking jack where you push, twist and lock it into position.  Has a single coaxial internal wire and is sheilded.

Body - Governing 

The governing body under which the professional practices, sets the standards and the scope of its membership. The state/provincial statutes can vary greatly region from region.

Cable - Shielded 

A cable whose internal wire(s) are wrapped by a layer or multiple layers of metal foil and/or meshing for isolation from external E-M, R-F and other energy forms. 

Calibration

The process of qualifying and tuning the device to specific standards of operation.

Calibration - Moisture 

A process that calibrates the device to the moisture of the area being screened.

Chinese Electric Pulse Tests

For years, Chinese physicians have used various characteristics of the pulse as diagnostic indicators of disease.  In recent years they have devised a diagnostic instrument, which correlates electrical activity at the radial pulse with the specific pulse characteristic.  Pulse diagnosis can now be done with passive electrical energy.

Computerized electro-dermal screening (CEDS) 

A branch of electro-dermal screening (EDS) that interfaces with a computer.

Conductance Monitor  - Skin (SCM) 

An electronic instrument used to take skin resistance readings.  

Control Measurement Point (CMP) 

The point on the meridian or vessel that encompasses its entire energetic pathway.

Data Acquisition Software 

Software used to collect the information/data produced by the measurement device.

Delivery System 

A device or system which delivers information for communication or treatment.  May be through electrodes, remedies, light, etc.

Dental Potential 

Measurement of evoked amperage and/or voltage potential originating from metals in the mouth.

Dermal

The skin.

Digital Signal

A signal generated from a computer.  The signal is broken down into bits of information known as digits (zeros and ones).

Dominant Focus

The dominant area of stress to deal with.

DIN Jack

½” plug with external metal ring and a varying number of central pins.

Display - Analog

A needle display showing the value of the measurement.

Display - Digital

A digital display showing the value of the measurement.

Drop - Indicator (ID)

The distance a reading drops from the maximum value to the lowest value.

EAV

Electro-acupuncture According to Voll; a method, as defined by Dr. Voll, of measuring and monitoring the body’s energy using galvanic skin response on specific points and devices calibrated to specific standards.

EDM

Electrodermal Measurement.

EDS

Electrodermal Screening; umbrella name covering the branch of Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) where electro-acupuncture points are used.

Electric Pulse Tests - (Chinese)

The position on the skin surface where the energy of a point along a meridian, vessel or other energetic pathway surfaces.

Electrocardiogram - Stress 

An electrocardiographic tracing is taken while the patient exercises vigorously.  Subtle changes in cardiac function in response to exercise can be identified, and early heart disease can be identified. 

Electrocardiograph (ECG)

The electrocardiograph was first developed in 1887 and records in a graph form the electrical activity emanating from different areas of the heart.

Electrode

A metal probe that requires skin contact with the client.  Through it, current, information and/or stimuli may be passed.

Electrodermal Point

Another name for electro-acupuncture point.

Electroencephalogram - Sleeping or Sleep Deprivation

Some abnormalities can presumably be identified on an EEG tracing if the patient is either asleep or sleep deprived, which might otherwise be missed if taken under normal wakeful circumstances.

Electroencephalograph (EEG)

The EEG was developed in 1875 and simply records the electrical activity emanating from various areas of the brain.

Electro-magnetic (EM)

Frequencies including radio, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, x-ray, gamma ray, and cosmic ray. Electro-magnetic energy field. May be used as a carrier, a delivery method or an antagonist.

Evoked Potential

The response of a biological material to energy.

Fall Rate (FALL) 

The rate (speed) at which the reading decreases from its maximum to its minimum.

Finding - Point 

A technique or device to locate an electro-acupuncture point.

Focus

An area of stress.

Focus - Dominant 

The dominant area of stress to deal with.

Force

The cause to put an object in motion or to alter the motion of a moving object.

Frequency Generator 

A device that produces hertz frequencies.

Frequencies - Schumann 

Hertz frequencies between 0 – 10 Hz used to balance physiological issues through a T.E.N.S. type application.

Galvanic Skin Resistance (GSR) 

Measurement of skin resistance to determine autonomic responses as physiological indicators by measuring the electric resistance of the skin and tissue path between two (2) electrodes (electrode and stylus) applied to the skin. 

Galvanic Skin Response

Measurement of skin resistance to determine autonomic responses as physiological indicators by measuring the electric resistance of the skin and tissue path between two (2) electrodes (electrode and stylus) applied to the skin. An initial measurement is taken, a stimulus is introduced and a new measurement is taken. Observations as to changes in the measurements are noted.

Gauge - Pressure 

A mechanism that qualifies and displays the pressure being applied through the stylus on the point being screened.

Generator - Frequency 

A device that produces hertz frequencies.

Governing Body

Grounding

A mechanical process where the device is grounded to draw away any surges and/or static.

Hertz 

Number of pulses per second.

Hololinguistic

A term, by definition, used to describe a universal language (Holo - whole/holy and linguistic - language). Within the EDS process; an EDS device/system, computerized or not, where the name or thought of an item is used as the stimulus in the GSR process.  It is an intent/radionic based process. 

Honeycomb 

A test plate with multiple holes to place test kit vials in.

Indicator Drop (ID)

The distance a reading drops from its maximum value to its lowest.

Isolation - Medical 

Special medical controls that isolate the client from potential injury due to power source surges and spiking.

Item Screening 

The process of energetically qualifying a substance’s impact (stimulus) on an electro-acupuncture point.

Jack - Banana 

Single pin (about 1/8” in diameter and 1" long) used predominately with electrodes.

Jack - BNC 

A locking jack where you push, twist and lock it into position.  Has a single coaxial internal wire and is sheilded.

Jack - DIN 

½” plug with external metal ring and a varying number of central pins.

Jack - RCA/PHONO 

Type of plug often used with VCRs and stereo systems, 3/8” external metal ring with single central pin.

Kit  - Test

A sampling of substances placed in small vials to be used as stimulus in the assessment process.

Magnetism

The property, quality, or condition of a magnet.

Maximum Reading (MAX) 

The highest measurement value while taking an EAV/EDS reading.

Measurement Point - Control  (CMP) 

The point on the meridian or vessel that encompasses its entire energetic pathway/system.

Measurement Point - Summation (SMP)

A point along a meridian or vessel that corresponds to (a) major function(s), system(s), subgroup(s) or structure(s).  It is a sub-set of a CMP.

Medical Isolation

Special medical controls that isolate the client from potential injury due to power sources, surges, and spiking.

Meridian - Acupuncture

A bioenergetic pathway in the body.

Minimum Reading (MIN)

The lowest measurement value while taking a reading.

Moisture 

The cellular moisture and/or the amount of humidity/moisture on the skin area being screened.

Moisture Calibration

A process that calibrates the device to the moisture of the area being screened.

Monitor - Skin Conductance (SCM) 

An electronic instrument used to take electro-acupuncture readings.  

MSA

Meridian Stress Assessment, another term for EDS. 

Non-invasive 

Does not puncture or pierce the skin.

Nystagmometry

Eye movement, in response to stimulation of the ear with either cold or hot water, is recorded electrically to identify inner ear problems.

Pharmacy - Virtual 

A computerized list of substances the user utilizes as stimuli to assess with.  The virtual pharmacy may be hololinguistic, radionics, digital emulation, resonant signature or other forms.

PHONO/RCA Jack

Type of plug often used with VCRs and stereo systems, 3/8” external metal ring with single central pin.

Photon

A light particle.

Plasma 

A body of substance.  In terms of this industry: a specific light source used as carrier of information for frequencies and resonances.

Plate - Test

A metal plate connected to the out-going electrode, used to place a substance, on as a stimulus, to qualify its energetic impact on electro-acupuncture points.

Point - Control Measurement  (CMP) 

The point on the meridian or vessel that encompasses its entire energetic pathway.

Point Finding

A technique or device to locate an electro-acupuncture point.

Potential - Dental

Measurement of evoked amperage and/or voltage potential originating from metals in the mouth.

Potential - Evoked 

The response of a biological material to energy.

Pressure

The amount of pressure being applied through the stylus on the electro-acupuncture point being screened.  For EAV the ideal pressure is about 1 lb. or 400 grams. Vega is less, EDS is often more.

Pressure Gauge

A mechanism that displays the pressure being applied through the stylus on the point being screened.

Product Screening 

The process of energetically qualifying a substance’s impact on an electro-acupuncture point.

Pulse Tests - Electric (Chinese)

Quadrant Analysis

R-F 

Radio Frequency energy field.  May be used as a carrier, a delivery method or a communication.

Rate (Fall) 

The rate (speed) at which the reading decreases from its maximum to its minimum.

Rate (Rise)

The speed rate at which the reading rises from 0 to its maximal value. 

RCA/PHONO Jack

Type of plug often used with VCRs and stereo systems, 3/8” external metal ring with single central pin.

Reading

The value the device indicates while taking a measurement.

Reading - Maximum (MAX) 

The highest measurement value while taking a reading.

Reading -  Minimum (MIN)

The lowest measurement value while taking a reading.

Resistance - Galvanic Skin (GSR) 

Measurement of skin resistance to determine autonomic responses as physiological indicators by measuring the electric resistance of the skin and tissue path between two (2) electrodes (electrode and stylus) applied to the skin.

Resonant Signature 

An energetic signature resonating from a substance or its signature reproduced through technology.  This signature is usually complex and multi-dimensional.

Sensitivity Screening

Energetically qualifying if a substance alters an electro-acupuncture point.

Stimulus

A substance, signal, frequency, energy form or any other form that is used to challenge a person with.

An electrocardiographic tracing is taken while the patient exercises vigorously.  Subtle changes in cardiac function in response to exercise can be identified, and early heart disease can be identified. 

Stylus 

The pen-like probe used to take the electro-acupuncture measurements with.

Substance Screening 

The process of energetically qualifying a substance’s impact on an electro-acupuncture point.

Summation Measurement Point (SMP)

A point along a meridian or vessel that corresponds to (a) major function(s), system(s), subgroup(s) or structure(s).  It is a sub-set of a CMP.

Temperature

Measure of heat or cold.  Movement (vibration) of a mass (substance).  Under the human tongue = 37 degrees C or 98.6 degrees F.

Tests - Electric Pulse (Chinese)

A sampling of substances placed in small vials to be used as stimuli in the assessment process.

Test Plate

A metal plate connected to the out-going electrode, used to place a substance on as a stimuli to qualify its energetic impact on electro-acupuncture points.

Tip - Spring Loaded

A stylus whose probe is set in spring type mechanism for a more cushion/soft effect on the point.

VEGA

A company, product, process and trademark owned by the VEGA company.  The VEGA system is part of the BFD family.  It may fall within the EDS philosophy.

Vessel 

An energetic system that Dr. Voll and/or others have discovered, that are not part of the Chinese meridian system.

Virtual Pharmacy

A computerized list of substances the user utilizes as stimuli to assess with.  The virtual pharmacy may be hololinguistic, with resonance signatures or others.

Voll

Dr. Reinhold Voll, a German Physician (engineering base), MD, DDS, D. Ac., D. Hom., ND, who coined EAV in 1952 and introduced the first devices through ML Kindling in 1956.

Voltage

The amount of volts being released/produced.
